Eligibility and Application Instructions
The following contains important information to help you complete your application. Please print a copy for your reference. If you wish to complete the application by hand, please click here to download a copy of the application.
- The application should take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete depending on the type of account you are applying for.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- Please complete the required information online and press the submit button to send the application to us. Applicants must confirm that they have read and agreed to the Terms and Conditions relevant to this online account application. Please ensure you are connected to a printer as you will need to PRINT a hard copy of the completed application for signature witnessing after pressing the submit button.
- You will also need the following documents :
- Original valid identification documents, e.g. passport, national ID card
- Original residential / permanent address confirmation, including any one of the following:
- Utility bill, government rates demand note, or employer's reference letter issued within the last 6 months, or
- Bank statement issued within the last 6 months, or
- Employment contract issued within last 12 months which must specify your name, HKID / passport no. and residential address, or
- National Identity Card or driving licence with address
- If you are applying for a credit card, please provide an original letter from your Employer specifying the date of hire, position, income and anticipated length of stay in Hong Kong on company letterhead. If you do not intend to live or work in Hong Kong, but would like to apply for a credit card, please contact our International Banking Centre by phone at (852) 2233 3888 / email at internationalbanking@hsbc.com.hk for assistance.
- To complete the certification process, bring the hard copy of your completed application and the above documents (please refer to point 4) to any of the following parties to witness your signing of the application and certify copies of your supporting documents:
- For applicants who are not an existing customer of HSBC, please approach:
- Embassy, consulate, or high commission of the country/territory issuing your identity documents
- A member of the judiciary or customs officer*
- Lawyer, notary public, actuary or accountant*
- For applicants who are an existing HSBC customer:
- Any of the above;
- Any HSBC branch

- The person certifying your documents must include the following details on all copies of the documents they certify:
- Write: "I have seen the original document and I certify that this is a complete and accurate copy of the original."
- Sign and add the date
- State their name and address clearly in BLOCK LETTERS
- Include their professional position or capacity and the name of the organization
- Add an official stamp clearly showing the certifier's address and telephone number
- Initial on each page of all supporting document copies
